This document contains important information about DragInstall®. Please read it completely before using the product.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
DragInstall Builder
The Builder application requires System 7.0 or later. It uses approximately 3MB of memory.
DragInstall Installers
Installer applications work with System 3.2 or later. Installers require around 512K of memory depending on the number of items installed.
INSTALLATION
If you are installing DragInstall from a floppy disk, insert the disk and double-click on the DragInstall Setup application. If you are installing DragInstall from your hard disk, just double-click on the DragInstall Setup application.
The installer application will present a window with a single installation option named "DragInstall". Drag this icon onto one of your hard disk icons to begin installation. This will create a folder named "DragInstall 2.0 folder" on your hard disk and install the following items inside:
Builder 2.0
This file is the Builder application used to create installers.
Documentation
This folder contains the files that make up the DragInstall User's Guide.
DragInstall Extensions
This folder contains the XRays that are included in the DragInstall package.
DragInstall Templates
This folder contains the standard Drag & Drop interface template used to build installers. This folder also contains all language files associated with this template.
Sample Icons
This folder contains files with custom icons that can be used as installation icons in your installers.
Tutorial Files
This folder contains the files used by the tutorials in the DragInstall User's Guide.
NOTE: The DragInstall Setup application includes other installation options which install individual components of the DragInstall package. If you need to reinstall any part of DragInstall in the future, you can use these installation options.
REGISTRATION
If you have purchased DragInstall, you should have received a registration number. This number is needed to change the DragInstall demo into a full working version. You will be prompted to enter your registration number the first time you run the Builder application. You can also access the registration dialog by choosing "Register..." from the Apple menu.
If you have not purchased DragInstall, you will be using a demo version of DragInstall. This version is identical to the full version except that it creates installers that last only one day.
If you need to create installers that last until a specified date, you can contact us for a special registration number to enable the Builder to do this.
KNOWN PROBLEMS
DragInstall 2.0 has been tested extensively on a wide range of hardware and software configurations. The following items were discovered in testing and have not been resolved for this 2.0 release:
• Multiple disk installers built as "Fat" or PowerPC-only applications require that the first disk be re-inserted after the installation is completed and the installer is quit. This does not occur with installers built as 680x0 applications, even on PowerPC-based Macintosh. This anomaly is being investigated. Until then, if you want to have installers that do not require re-inserting the first disk, build them as 680x0 applications. (This will save about 100K of space compared to "Fat" installers anyway.)
• There is an incompatibility between NOW WYSIWYG Menus and the Builder's Read Me editor window which causes system errors after the Read Me editor has been opened and closed several times. You can work around this problem by adding the Builder as an "excluded" application in the WYSIWYG Menus Control Panel. Note that this problem does not affect installers built with the Builder.
• The Builder experiences Type 11 crashes on a PowerPC Macintosh® 8100 running System 7.5.2. These crashes were eliminated after upgrading to System 7.5.3. Note that installer applications experienced no problems running under either system on this machine.
